The Sishen golf course winds its way through a 500 hectare Camelthorn forest on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Built and maintained by Sishen Iron Ore Mine. Considering its surroundings, its lush green fairways and greens have surprised many a visitor to this arid region. The course is regularly rated in the top 20 best golf courses in South Africa and is truly the most remote gem.
Water comes into play on the 6th, 9th and 18th holes with the magnificent thorn trees ready to ensnare any stray shots.
Driving range, practice tee and halfway house. The golf club is part of a sporting and recreation club, with the main clubhouse and its restaurant situated only about 150 metres away from the golf course. Tennis, squash, bowls and a swimming pool are available at the main club.
From Johannesburg: Travel on the N14 towards Upington. 50kms past the town of Kuruman you will reach the town of Kathu. Turn right towards Kathu, the golf course is on the outskirts of Kathu. (Clearly sign-posted, approximately 600km from Johannesburg). From Cape Town: Travel on the N7 north. Take the R27 towards Calvinia through to Keimoes where you will join the N14 towards Upington. 200kms past the town of Upington you will reach the town of Kathu. Turn right towards Kathu, the golf course is on the outskirts of Kathu. (Clearly sign-posted, approximately 1000km from Cape Town).
