San Lameer Golf Course
San Lameer Golf Course opened in 1922 is situated on the unspoiled South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal in a nature conservation area fashioned our to dense coastal bush with rich bird life. Designed by Peter Malkovich and Dale Hayes, this course also features lots of water and magnificent views.
The 18-hole golf course makes use of the good rainfall and lush coastal vegetation. While the course is not particularly long the layout is famous for its numerous water hazards, palm trees, and indigenous bush and subsequently places an emphasis on the need for accuracy. Some might not appreciate the aesthetics of these hazards, as it can be an intimidating course for the novice. The par-five 13th is a real gambling hole. Once you get your drive away on a 454-metre hole that doglegs sharply left, you either have to find an island fairway with your second shot, or go boldly for the green protected by water. At San Lameer Golf Course the fairways are narrow where many different challenges present themselves; right - to - left doglegs, large bunkers, thick rough and water hazards! The country club greens are fast yet smooth. To enjoy this course you will have to play conservative golf, straight down the middle, and stay out of trouble.
The course has a Pro Shop on hand for any of your golfing requirements. There is a driving range, practice green, halfway house and restaurant. Tennis courts, squash courts and a swimming pool are available at the club.
San Lameer is just off the N2 highway, 160 kilometers or 90 minutes from Durban International Airport. The Estate is only minutes away from the popular resort town of Margate with its own airport, and just 20 minutes from the Wild Coast Casino. Take the N2 (main highway between Durban & Port Edward), the course lies 3 km past Southbroom.
