Glendower Golf Course
Glendower Golf Course, Johannesburg is conveniently located within 10 minutes of OR Tambo International Airport and set against a tree-covered slope as background. This 6770m course is exquisitely designed featuring beautiful fairways, numerous hazards and leading to well kept greens.
Due to its lush vegetation and the great variety of bird species, the course was proclaimed a nature conservation area in 1973. During the 80’s the course saw a major face change. All 18 greens were reshaped and rebuilt, new tee positions were added, existing water hazards were cleared and extended and new water features added at a number of holes. The changes have made the club one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in South Africa. After this major project to modernize greens complexes and reposition its bunkering, Glendower has climbed another few rungs up the ladder and, for anyone wanting to experience the best that parkland golf has to offer, this is the place. There are 85 bunkers and water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes. The aesthetically pleasing second hole is one of the best par-fives to be found anywhere, requiring an accurate tee-shot to a fairway flanked by trouble both left and right and a water hazard next to the green. Magnificent greens, an abundance of bunkers and luscious Kikuyu fairways complete the experience. A challenging golf course set amidst gorgeous surroundings, Glendower Golf Course is said to be a test for even the best golfers. The Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg hosted the South African Open in 1989, 1993 and 1997 and is one of the top ten courses in South Africa.
Glendower Golf Club also has brilliant practice facilities with the practice tee located behind the clubhouse and the practice putting green in the front. Chipping Greens and bunkers can be found beside the 10th tee. Additionally, Glendower has a top pro-shop with the best golf wear and accessories at great prices.
